Tragic Loss: Ramp Agent Courtney Edwards Remembered as Devoted Mother of Three
Written by AirplaneFlyers
On December 31st, a tragic incident occurred at Alabama's Montgomery Regional Airport when a ground handling agent for Piedmont Airlines, a subsidiary of American Airlines, was ingested into the engine of an Embraer E175LR aircraft. The victim, Courtney Edwards, was working on the aircraft which had just arrived from Dallas Fort Worth International Airport with 59 passengers and four crew members on board.
According to reports, video footage showed Edwards "walking along the leading edge of the left wing and directly in front of the number one engine" before being sucked in by the GE CF34 power plant. Sadly, Edwards died as a result of the incident.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has launched an investigation into the incident at Montgomery Regional Airport, where a tragic accident occurred involving a ground handling agent. The investigation has revealed that a safety meeting was held by the ground crew before the flight's arrival, however, the incident occurred despite the proper safety protocols being in place.
Courtney Edwards, a mother of three, was remembered as a "loving" and dedicated mother by her family and friends. A GoFundMe campaign was started to raise funds for her children, and as of Tuesday, it had raised close to $100,000.:max_bytes(150000):strip_icc():focal(584x349:586x351):format(webp)/Courtney-Edwards-012423-4da671f795ae4345b99ba92b464d88c2.jpg)
